Dear Mili, By Wilhelm Grimm and Maurice Sendak

This book was very special to me when I was a little girl. I cherished it, simply because it was gorgeous. Every time I opened it, I got lost in the illustrations. This happened with no pretension, no motive, just pure appreciation from a six year old who wanted to hear the story before bedtime. It was only as an adult that I discovered the history of this sophisticated children's book.

The tale was discovered long after it was written by Wilhelm Grimm... 167 years to be exact. It was preserved in a letter he wrote to a little girl named Mili, and wasn't discovered and translated until the 1980s. Maurice Sendak came into the picture, and created one of the most beautifully illustrated books of our time.

If you are looking for a book to introduce your child to a world of mystery, beauty, and wonder -- add Dear Mili to their library.
