Natural Wheat Crackers

My boys love crackers! Reading all of the preservatives and toxic garbage in commercial crackers can make your head spin, so we have been experimenting with different homemade crackers. Here is a basic wheat cracker recipe to get you started.

  • 3 cups of wheat, oat, grain, or rice flour (feel free to mix and match)
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp honey
  • spices, seeds, and grains for topping

1. Mix all ingredients into a bowl (you can try to use a fork, but we recommend getting your hands in there to mix everything together)
2. Place your flaky dough ball on a flat surface (parchment paper is helpful to avoid stickiness)

3. Work it together in ball and use a rolling pin to roll a thin layer of dough
4. Use a pizza cutter to make square crackers
4. Top with spices, seeds, or grains (basil, rosemary, oats, and mustard seed shown here)

5. Transfer your crackers to a baking stone (or baking sheet)

6. Bake at 425 degrees for 17 minutes if using a stone (450 degrees for 12 minutes on baking sheet)
7. Let your crackers cool off, and enjoy now...

8. Or store them in a jar for later! (they will keep for 8-10 days)
